BOUQUET, Oil on canvas, 31x31, 2003 by Serhiy Dupliy
Bouquet by Serhiy Dupliy

Serhiy Dupliy was born in the village of Sydorivka in the Cherkasy region of Central Ukraine.  The natural beauty of his childhood surroundings was instrumental in fostering Dupliy’s fondness for painting at a very early age.   His artistic ability soon came to the attention of the renowned painter Boris Fedorenko, who strongly encouraged the young artist and introduced him to several workshops of art teachers at the National Academy of Fine Arts.  Upon seeing Dupliy’s work, one of these instructors, the eminent painter and professor Tetiana Golombiyevska, told him "you do not need to attend classes.  It may only distort your God given gift by somebody's influence. Continue on your own and develop your talent and your own style." Golombiyevska later sponsored the painter’s admission into the Artists' Union of Ukraine.

Over a hundred of Dupliy’s paintings can be found in private collections throughout the world.  His works, which depict mainly still-lifes and natural outdoor settings, are characterized by the spontaneous and dynamic manner of his brushwork.  His paintings reveal the cleanliness of the iridescent colors found in the natural world, which has always been his most important teacher.  The spontaneous, passionate, and seemingly improvisational quality of Dupliy’s work endows it with a sense of ultimate freedom, making him one of the most sought-after artists in all of Ukraine.

Works of Serhiy Dupliy have appeared in numerous publications. ContempoARTukraine, a quaterly publication featuring contemporary Ukrainian artists, featured Dupliy's paintings in its 2004/4 issue. Works of the artist are sold all over the world.
