at NY Times Travel Show
Washington, D.C., February 15, 2009
For the first time ever, Ukraine was represented through the Discover Ukraine exhibit at the New York Times Travel Show, the largest consumer and travel trade show produced in the United States. The convention was held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, NY, from February 6 through February 8, 2009.
The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, through its agreement with the Government of Ukraine, organized the Discover Ukraine exhibit. Other sponsors included AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines and the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council.
The Foundation has been supporting Ukraine’s travel industry since 2005 with its #1 “Travel Ukraine” website, www.traveltoukraine.org. The Foundation's growing presence on the Internet along with its business sector e-newsletter, BizLinks, complements travel promotional efforts like the NY Times Travel Show and other upcoming 2009 travel conventions.
For the New York Times Travel Show, the Foundation promoted numerous travel agencies, hotels and airlines involved in Ukraine travel. The Foundation also produced and distributed a Discover Ukraine brochure and a Discover Ukraine Travel Guide for the travel show attendees.
Three display stands provided beautiful sights of Ukraine while reminding the travel show visitors to “Discover Ukraine … the unexpected” and to go the website, www.traveltoukraine.org. A fourth display stand prominently advertised AeroSvit Ukrainian Airlines. The booth was also hi-tech equipped with computer monitors illustrating the sights of Ukraine.
Stage performances at the New York Times Travel Show included a Ukrainian culinary presentation by the Veselka Restaurant of New York City and a cultural component, singing by sisters Nadiya and Nataliya Pavlishyn.
U.S.-Ukraine Foundation staff and volunteers, including Alexis Buryk, Mike Buryk, Stephan Buryk, Ken Davis, Solomia Gorohivska, Iryna Kurowiskyj, Nadia McConnell, Igor and Vera Pavlishyn, Olesiy ynelnychenko, and Oksana Yakovenko, who worked the exhibit over the course of three days. Andrew Evans, author of Ukraine: The Bradt Travel Guide, visited the exhibit.
The Foundation is also grateful to the Embassy of Ukraine for its travel and logistical assistance and to members of the Foundation’s Travel to Ukraine Committee for providing expert, consultative advice in the planning of the Discover Ukraine exhibit.
The Foundation’s upcoming Discover Ukraine promotional activities include participation at the Adventures in Travel Expo 2009 at the Washington Convention Center, February 21 & 22, supporting travel interest in Ukraine through the upcoming publication, Cities: Capitals of the Mind, by The Communication Group plc, and a presentation at the Cities – Secret of a Winning Destination international conference in London, March 3 & 4, 2009.
